If you’re looking for something that stays rock-solid but weighs next to nothing, our 25mm carbon fiber tubes are a great bet. We make these by embedding carbon filaments in a polymer resin and curing them under high pressure. Why the pressure? It gets rid of those annoying little air bubbles (voids) that can ruin a build. It doesn’t budge. The 25mm size is a sweet spot for things like robotic arms or structural supports. But the real magic is how it handles temperature. Most materials freak out when it gets hot or cold, but this stuff barely reacts. Whether you’re working in a freezer at -40°C or a scorching 100°C environment, the tube stays the same size. If you’ve been using aluminum and hate how it flexes or shifts, this is your answer. The trade-off (because there’s always one) Here’s the thing about the build: we mix unidirectional fibers for raw strength with a 3K twill wrap. That way, the tube can take a hit without crushing or splitting. But a word of warning: carbon fiber is brittle. Unlike steel, which will bend and give you a warning, carbon fiber just… snaps. Once you hit that limit, it’s over. So, do your math on the peak stress loads. You don’t want a “catastrophic failure” on your first field test. Getting it mounted When it comes to adding sensors or brackets, don’t just reach for the drill. Cutting into the fibers creates weak spots. If you can, stick to epoxy bonding or clamped collars. If you absolutely have to drill a hole, slide a reinforcing sleeve over the area first to keep things sturdy. It’s a bit pricier per meter than those glass-reinforced plastics, but for a lightweight chassis or a drone frame, the weight savings are worth every penny.
